The Mead Journal - Tastings This Weekend

We’re heading into yet another scorcher of a weekend, Portland. Luckily, our shop will be open all weekend long, complete with air conditioning and a spectacular mead tasting lineup to refresh the senses and ease the heat. Cheers!

Mead: Maine Meadworks (Portland, ME)

Varietal: Ram Island Iced Tea (7.0%)

Notes: An all-time favorite for many Mead Market team members, this classic and refreshing mead boasts a classic iced tea taste with a hint of honey and a light finish. Bold and summery without being too sweet.

Pairs well with: Summer salads, burgers, cheddar cheese and crackers.

 

Mead: Golden Coast Mead (Oceanside, CA)

Varietal: California Oak (10.5%)

Notes: Aged in oak barrels in the heart of California, this zesty mead features forward wildflower honey on the palette carrying through to notes of fresh wax, vanilla, and American oak.

Pairs well with: Typical summer cook-out fare: pork chops, grilled veggies, or just on its own at a concert in the park!

Mead: Ethereal Mead (Battle Ground, WA)

Varietal: Happy Gnome (6% ABV)

Notes: Fermented with whole cluster marionberries, Happy Gnome is a crowd favorite with its notes of meadowfoam honey and light carbonation. Enjoy it on tap or in 500mL bottles!

Pairs well with: Cured meat and heirloom tomatoes.
